Wolfie's Wondering: Accuracy

This is a feature on Writer Person that is partially discussion post, partially question post, and partially observation post. It changes with my mood and whatever my pressing concern is.

Okay, so I'm back. Er, this feature is back. I'd like to thank Lakin for her comment. It was encouraging and definitely reminded me that the reason I do this in the first place is because I want to. Not because of anyone else. (But seriously, don't hesitate to comment. Say hi. Tell me what you ate for breakfast. Or, you know, actually respond to my topic.)

Today, I want to wonder about my accuracy. With what, you may ask? With my older reviews and ratings, particularly those on Goodreads. You see, I've had a Goodreads account for almost 4 years now. There are A LOT of books on there, most of them I remember pretty well. And some of them I just.. don't. And I see them with four or five star ratings. And very few of them have reviews, so I don't remember why I felt the need to give them that rating. And futhermore! I can't change it. Because I don't know what to change it to.

Especially since those higher ratings are based on one or more of these principles:

* interesting topic
* interesting execution
* gave me all the feels
* can relate to the character(s)
* too true to be anything else
* inspired me in some way
* so freaking beautiful

And with such a wide range for those high ratings... It's hard to re-rate them. But I'm a mission to try. Or at least sort them out somehow.

So my question to you:

How accurate are your older reviews? Do you feel the need to re-rate them? What are your standards for a five-star review? Have they changed over the years?

  1. Aww, you made me blush, but I'm glad you found my comment encouraging! Before I started blogging I didn't write very many reviews unless I really loved the book. I try really hard to give reviews that are honestly what I feel. My 5-star standards are basically like yours, they don't really change but sometimes my thoughts for a standard do.

    1. Of course, thank you so much!
      And yeah, I wrote very few and I don't even know why - some I loved, some I hated. But they were all pretty random. And same here, of course. But I feel like my five star standards contradict each other sometimes. Like I've read some super interesting stuff that I just can't give five stars to, even though they meet those first two. But it is what it is, I suppose.

Thanks for stopping by! I do read every comment and I reply to all the ones that elicit some sort of response. So if you want, you can check back in a couple days to see if I replied.(:
